Automation institute of Shandong Academy of Sciences was established in August of 1978.It was first named as Automation institute of Shandong province in the first year of its set up and it changed its name to Automation Institute of Shandong Academy of Sciences in the December of 1992.
         By the end of 2010, it has more than 120 employees, which include one Mountain Tai scholar expert、 one Mountain Tai distinguished scholar expert from overseas、 11 researchers、24 above title in vice-high class and 90 doctors and masters. 
         Since the establishment of the institute, it has devoted itself to the R&D and application to the technology of industrial automation for ages. At present it takes Automotive Electronics and Critical control technology of New Energy Vehicles、Robotics and Manufacturing Automation Technology、New-Pattern Sensing and Intelligent Control Technology as its main research direction. It has built Shandong Key Laboratory of Automotive Technology、Shandong Engineering Research Center for Automotive Electronics、Shandong Automotive Engineering Laboratory、Mountain Tai Scholar Hillock of Automotive Technology Research and Application、National Robotics Engineering Center, Shandong Sub-center、Shandong Key Lab of Robotics and Manufacturing technology、Shandong Robotics and Manufacturing Automation Engineering Research Center、Cable Control Center of Shandong Academy of Sciences、Digital City, Shandong Province, and the Intelligent Building Engineering Technology Research Center R & D base and so on. Moreover it is Affiliated units of Automation of Shandong Province、information led unit of Shandong  robotics strategic alliance.
          Over the years, it has presided and undertaken more than 200 national and provincial key research items including 863 projects, National Science and Technology cum 02 special issue of major projects, "Eleventh Five-Year" National Science and Technology Support Program, National Natural Science Foundation, Major projects in Shandong Province Science and Technology.etc, formed Large number of technical achievements with independent intellectual property, which got widely application in the industries of Machinery, automobile, equipment manufacturing, iron and steel and provided technical support and services for the thousands of enterprises.
          Automation Institute of Shandong Academy of Sciences will adhere to the office conception of “technological innovation and serve the society”, Promote Institute spirit of "harmony, dedication, truth-seeking, innovative" , closely center on the scientific and technological needs of Shandong as well as regional economic and social development, Vigorously carry out major research key common technologies, integrated innovation and engineering research and development, make great effect to make due contribution to the national scientific and technological development, economic development and technological progress.
